Frequently asked questions
What is RTF and why use it?
RTF (Rich Text Format) is a Microsoft-developed text-based document format from 1987. It is supported by virtually every word processor — Word, LibreOffice, Apple TextEdit, WordPad — without requiring Microsoft Office. RTF is useful when you need a formatted document that must open on any system without compatibility issues.
How is RTF different from DOCX?
RTF is a plain-text format — the entire document is readable ASCII control codes and text. DOCX is a binary ZIP archive of XML files. RTF files are larger but more universally supported on older systems. DOCX supports more modern features (track changes, SmartArt, complex styles). Both open in Word and LibreOffice.
Is my data safe when converting CSV to RTF online?
Yes. CSVShift generates the RTF document entirely in your browser. No data is uploaded to any server.
